I was afraid…

Has God placed a dream on your heart? Are you too afraid to take the next step towards making it a reality? Moving forward can be scary. Thoughts of not being being good enough and failing can hold you back and prevent you from making the next move. Trust me, I know. It took me years just to get up the courage to talk about mine.

Writing to inspire others has always been my dream. A dream and desire placed deep within my heart long ago by the Lord. But every time God nudged me to take the next step I would do nothing. I was too afraid to put myself out there. Writing takes a lot of hard work, discipline, and  very thick skin. Putting that much work into something only to have it criticized and rejected scared me to death. In my dreams everything was perfect.  It was safer to keep it a dream than make it a reality.

Not too long ago God led me to read  Ecclesiastes 5:7 “Dreaming too much and talking too much are meaningless. So have respect for God” As I read this I realized I was being foolish. I wasn’t bringing him any glory by keeping my calling a dream. And I sure wasn’t inspiring anyone by being disobedient.  All this worrying about what others thought was holding me back.. I needed to trust him and boldly step out in faith. No more excuses. No more running. No more fighting. It was time to stop dreaming and start doing!

If God has placed a dream on your heart and is calling you to take the the next step he will see you through it. You can trust that God will be with you every step of the way!

I was inspired to share this today because of a devotion written by Glynnis Whitwer, from Proverb 31 Ministries. You can read the devotion here: Reviving an Abandoned Dream.

Great message Kelly. It spoke to me too, as you know I hold myself back. Thanks for sharing, my friend!

I think we all hold ourselves back. Which is what the enemy wants. He will do anything he can to scare us into thinking we aren’t good enough and that God can’t use us. But God will equip the called! He will provide the tools needed. We don’t need to be afraid!

Great post Kelly. I can identify with everything you said. The Lord spoke to me about writing a book several times and I had all the mixed emotions you speak of. Then He gave me the confident assurance I needed, I was obedient and wrote the book Rock Bottom and it was published last June and it has been a great experience. Keep your head up and march forward, the Lord is with you. God bless you.
