Just me, Jesus, and my swing.
Do you have a favorite spot you like to retreat to when you need to unwind? A couple of years ago my family gave me a patio swing for Mother’s Day. Instead of placing it on the patio I chose to put it out in the yard so I could have a better view of the garden.
There is something mysterious about the way a garden brings peace to the soul. I’m not sure whether it’s watching the flowers grow, the sounds of birds chirping, or experiencing a butterfly flutter around me that makes it so comforting. One thing I am sure of is that in those few precious tranquil moments, I feel closer to the Lord than I do at any other time. Just me, Jesus, and my swing in the garden.
Speaking of Gardens! I recently read Devotions From The Garden – Finding Peace and Rest for Your Hurried Life by Miriam Drennan.
In this devotional the author invites the reader to spend some time with the Lord away from their busy lives. As it states in the title, Gardening is the theme for each devotion. Each devotional includes a lovely prayer and a thought-provoking reflection question, encouraging the reader to grow in their faith. Beautiful photography is also scattered throughout the book and adds a nice touch.
Over all I enjoyed the author’s writing. I thought it was impressive the way she was able to take so many garden related topics and turn them into devotions. There are ninety devotionals in total and I looked forward to learning from each one. I was never disappointed. I would recommend this book to not only those who enjoy gardening personally, but to anyone who appreciates the beauty of gardening.
