Negative thoughts don’t wait for my invitation. They lurk in the back of my mind waiting for an opportunity to barge in. All it takes is one look of disapproval or a tiny step in the wrong direction, and they show up as an uninvited guest. Instead of throwing them out I entertain them. Before I realize it, my party has been crashed, and I’m left thinking I’m not good enough, strong enough, or worthy enough.
Sound familiar?
If you are overwhelmed by the negative thoughts rattling around in your head, don’t worry. There is hope. God has provided us with a way to help quiet the noise in our noggins.
How do we quiet the noise in our heads?
In Philippians 4:8 God’s word tells us to think about whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. In other words, if it isn’t positive, don’t give it another thought.
When my son was little, he struggled with having a negative mindset. It was a constant battle for him. To help him battle his negativity, I would make him come up with five positive things to say for every negative word he spoke. And you know what? It really helped. Over time he became more positive.
Positive truths from God’s word can help us win the war against our negative thoughts.
Scripture is a powerful weapon to have by our side. In my last blog post, Don’t Get Caught Un Prepared In A Snowstorm, I shared that Hebrews 4:12 tells us God’s word is like a two-edged sword. It’s sharp enough to slice through any negative thought we have.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. If we can learn to take our thoughts captive and replace them with positive truths from scripture, we can have success in battling our negative thoughts.

Negative thoughts can be tough to battle, but with the right tools, we can be victorious. Let’s stop entertaining our negative thoughts and replace them with positive truths from God’s word. Below you will find a list of powerful bible verses.
When we think we aren’t good enough God’s word says:
- “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 {NIV}
- “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 {NIV}
When we think we aren’t strong enough God’s word says:
- “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 {NIV}
When we think we have no purpose God’s word says:
- “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 {NIV}
- “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14 {NIV}
When we think we aren’t lovable God’s word says:
- “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17 {NIV}
- “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” 1 John 3:16 {NIV}

I love this post, I used to have so many thoughts and i knew the Word but once I really understood the accuser of the brethren and began to confess that Jesus made me righteous, that started to change. If anyone is under attack like like this, it must be that God’s plans are great.
