When Your Relationship is Challenged

The Power of Sticking Together(1)

Have you ever reached down to try to pluck a blade of grass from the ground? It doesn’t take much effort on our part to yank it up. A single blade of grass isn’t very strong on its own. If you were to grab an entire handful of grass, however, it wouldn’t come up so easily. A bunch of grass clumped together is a great deal stronger than a single blade of grass, and requires more force to get it out of the ground.

It’s the same with people.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says, ‘”Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

God’s word encourages us to stick together.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor_If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.

Together we are stronger.

Together we can accomplish more.

Together we can protect one another.

Together we can support each other.

Together we are harder to knock down.

Together we can overcome the obstacles that come our way.

Every relationship is going to have obstacles.

What qualifies as an obstacle? Anything that blocks or hinders progress. An obstacle stops us in our tracks and prevents us from moving forward.

We live in a world where difficult things are thrown at us all the time. In a relationship an obstacle can separate the best of friends, cause disunity in a marriage, or spark a falling-out between family members. It can also cause friction among co-workers and other acquaintances we might have out in the world. No one is exempt. Even the healthiest of relationships are challenged by them.

When obstacles come they’ll either break us or strengthen us; the choice is ours.Tweet this!

If an obstacle presents itself in one of our relationships we don’t have to let it subdue us. Instead of crumbling under it’s pressure, we can rely on God’s strength to get us through the challenges we are facing. And together with God by our side, we can overcome the obstacles that come our way by remaining united and refusing to let them divide us.

Love this. I got excited when I read the verse you are using. Me and my husband has always used that as our verse since we were dating. We knew it was important to have one to pray over our relationship. Love how you are encouraging marriages with this series.

I love this! In fact my blog, Cord of 6 is based on that verse. Together we are stronger! I’m visiting from Grace and Truth.
