Happily Ever After

The devil likes to tempt us. For me, he uses my book sales. If I don’t do as well as I’d like, Satan whispers “You can make more money writing erotica.” And when I hesitate at the notion, the evil one will add, “Other Christian authors are doing it, why not you?”
That’s how the devil works. He wants us to think sin is okay because others are doing it as well. However, in Romans 12:2, the Bible tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” When we take our eyes off God for a prize other than His love, we are more likely to sin.

It’s hard to fight back when the evil one tosses barbs that gut us like a fish caught on a hook. However, we must use God’s words to fight back, just like Jesus did in Matthew 4:1-11. Satan tried to tempt Jesus at his most vulnerable when he was hungry and tired. The devil will do that to us also. He waits until we are desperate or discouraged to try to get us to sin. We must follow Jesus’ example and use God’s words to fight against sin.
If we spend time in the Bible and wait on God’s timing, things will come to us. As stated in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Too often we rush in or take another path to get what we want. In those instances, we either never see God’s blessing or turn from God in order to live happily in this world without any thought to the next life. In the end, that happily ever after might come with a very steep price.

Remember to focus on God’s word so that you can any fight anything tempting you to sin. Make sure whatever road you take, God is in front of you. It’s the only way to ensure the enemy will not be successful.

“Dear Father, thank you for all the blessings you have bestowed upon me. I know there are times when I am tempted by things of this world. Please help me to see that what you provide in both this world and the next are more than enough for me. Help me to realize that your love will always be enough. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
