When Fear Comes Crashing In
Have you ever been tempted to give in to fear?
Fear is a powerful emotion. I remember when I was supposed to give my testimony at a women’s event. Although I was positive this was what God wanted me to do, my fears still taunted me. Who was I to stand up there and speak to these women? I don’t have anything worth sharing. I can’t help anyone. I’m not good enough.
When the time rolled around for me to get up there and share my story, I was tempted to tell the coordinator of the event I couldn’t do it. I knew if I didn’t calm down, I was going to give in to the emotional storm brewing inside me. I needed to gain control of my emotions, but the temptation I was facing was too great to handle on my own.
How do we overcome the desire to give in to our fears? We pray. When we surrender our doubts, fears, and insecurities over to God, He silences them. Isaiah 41:13 tells us that it is God himself who helps us. The only way to calm the fearful storms within us is to seek God for help. It is through His power that we stand firm against the desire to give into our fears.
God is the only one powerful enough to silence the fearful storms within us.–Tweet this!
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” Psalm 107:28-29 NIV
Today’s verse reminds us that there is no storm too big for God to handle. We don’t have to succumb to fear when it comes crashing in. Our gracious Father will help us overcome our fears. The next time we’re tempted to shrink back in fear, let’s remember to call on the one who is powerful enough to calm the storms and hush the seas.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your grace and mercy. You are a mighty God who is good to deliver us from the storms we’re facing. Help us to remember that it’s through your power that we overcome our fears. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
“When we surrender our doubts, fears, and insecurities over to God, He silences them.” Amen, Kelly!
I need to do this more often!!! Thanks for the reminder!
You are welcome!
