Petitioning God With Words of Promise #PetalsOfWisdom

Today’s devotion was written by Carolina Hinojosa-Cisneros

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God.”  Philippians 4:6, NIV

“I don’t need your help!” I immediately wanted to pluck the words from the air and stuff them back into my mouth. I wish I had not said that. I wish it had come out differently.

I sat for days marinating in my anxiety about what my husband must have felt like to hear me say I didn’t need his help. I refused his help because my pride swelled larger than my thanksgiving.

Instead of taking my anxiety to God about a long day at work, I took it out on my husband. My words cut and I couldn’t take them back. He’s my helpmate and the first to offer help to me.

I should have taken my petition to God.

I should have taken up prayer when the anxiety grew on me for how I’d responded to my husband’s offer to help.

Do you take your anxiety out on your family when you should be bringing it to God?

I’m blessed beyond measure with a helpmate that is patient in every sense of the word. His love is an extension of how God loves me and how He extends his grace into our lives.

Our words have the power to promote healing in our home and they have the power to destroy the very promise on which it is built. –Tweet this!

Let’s pray:

God, thank you for loving me through my husband and my children. When I begin to feel anxious about things I cannot control in life, I want to remain mindful of how I choose to use my words in situations where I have not come to you first. I pray for your protection over my words and over my heart. In your name I pray. Amen.
